Platinum as a catalyst is used for hydrogenation of alkenes, alkynes, nitro groups. It is also used for hydrogenolysis of cyclopropanes, catalyzes oxidation of alcohols.

Applications

Solubility
Insoluble in water, mineral acids, and organic acids. Soluble in boiling aqua regia (reacts), and molten alkali cyanides (reacts).

Notes
Stable under recommended storage conditions. Incompatible with oxidizing agents, organic materials and flammable substances.
