This enzyme can be used alone or in combination with other proteases for protein analysis by mass spectrometry and other applications. Elastase, is used in tissue dissociation because elastin is found in highest concentrations in the elastic fibers of connective tissues, elastase is frequently used to dissociate tissues that contain extensive intercellular fiber networks. For this purpose, it is usually used with other enzymes such as collagenase, trypsin, and chymotrypsin, membrane protein solubilization, protein sequence studies.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.

General Description

• Elastase is a serine protease that can hydrolyze elastin, a specific protein of elastic fibers

Application

• Elastase, porcine pancreas has been used in cell culture techniques, ELISA assays, and in experiments to measure the inhibitory activity of elastase

• Since elastin is found in the fibers of connective tissues, elastase is commonly used to dissociate tissues that contain extensive intercellular fiber networks

• It is typically used with other enzymes, including collagenase, trypsin, and chymotrypsin

• Elastase enzyme is isolated from porcine pancreas and can be used alone or combined with other proteases for protein analysis by mass spectrometry and other applications, including membrane protein solubilization and protein sequence studies

• This compound also hydrolyzes amides and esters such as N-Benzoyl-L-alanine methyl ester
