GN Broth (Dehydrated)

Catalog number: R453514

Selectively enrich gram-negative bacilli, especially Salmonella and Shigella spp. using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ GN Broth (Dehydrated). It was developed by Hanja as an enrichment medium which has proven superior to direct inoculation of media for recovery and enrichment of enteric gram-negative bacilli1. Taylor and Schelhart found GN Broth to be more effective than selenite broth for recovery of Shigella spp2.

Salmonella and Shigella are major causes of bacterial enteric illness with transmission occurring via the fecal-oral route, person-to-person contact, or by the ingestion of contaminated food or water.

Selectively enrichgram-negative bacilli, especially Salmonella and Shigella spp. using GN Broth.

This medium is a ready-to-use liquid medium used for qualitative procedures. This medium contains casein and meat peptone that provide amino acids and other nitrogenous compounds to support bacterial growth. Dextrose and mannitol are energy sources and their concentrations are balanced to limit the growth of Proteus and encourage the growth of Salmonella and Shigella. Sodium deoxycholate and sodium citrate inhibit gram-positive organisms.
