Mouse anti Streptococcus pneumoniar antibody, clone 128/390 recognizes Streptococcus pneumoniae, a causative agent of respiratory disease in humans.
There are more than 85 antigenic types of S. pneumoniae, which are determined by capsule antigens. Altough S. pneumoniae is part of the normal respiratory flora, invasion commonly results in pneumonia as well as meningitis. S. pneumoniae is protected from phagocytosis by its polysaccharide capsule which is also a prominent virulence factor. Infections can usually be treated with antibiotics, although resistant strains are emerging.
