Catalog number: R08697

Selectively cultivate and isolate pathogenic fungi with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ SABHI™ Agar w/Chloramphenicol, Cycloheximide. In 1967, Gorman developed SABHI Agar by combining Sabouraud Dextrose Agar and Brain Heart Infusion Agar. This combined formulation increased recovery of pathogenic fungi1. Selectivity can be achieved by the addition of different antibiotics. Sabouraud Dextrose Agar helps in the cultivation of dermatophytes and Brain Heart Infusion Agar helps to isolate fungi from clinical specimens2.

SABHI Agar w/Chloramphenicol, Cycloheximide is a solid medium recommended for use in qualitative procedures for cultivation and isolation of pathogenic fungi.

This medium is made selective by adding chloramphenicol and cycloheximide that inhibit a range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and saprophytic fungi respectively.

  • Ready-to-use – Convenience of prepared media
  • Available in two formats: as a deep pour monoplate and a 20 x 133 mm tube
  • Selective – Chloramphenicol is an broad spectrum antibiotic which inhibits a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Cycloheximide inhibits rapidly growing saprophytic fungi that may overgrow slower-growing organisms as well as growth of other pathogens such as Cryptococcus neoformans, some Candida species, some Aspergillus species and Zygomycetes
  • Conforms to CLSI Standards3

SABHI Agar w/Chloramphenicol, Cycloheximide contains dextrose, casein peptone, meat peptone, brain heart infusion solids, sodium chloride, disodium phosphate, agar, demineralized water, chloramphenicol and cycloheximide. Dextrose serves as the carbohydrate source. Sheep blood provide essential growth factors for fastidious fungi. Chloramphenicol and gentamicin inhibit gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
