Thermo Scientific™ Remel E. coli Screen with Kovacs is used for presumptive identification of E. coli using PGUA and indole tests.

  • ρ-Nitrophenyl β-D-glucopyranosiduronic acid (PGUA), a colorless compound, is hydrolyzed by β-glucuronidase yielding nitrophenyl, a yellow compound
  • In the indole test, the enzyme tryptophanase attacks the tryptophan molecule on its side chain leaving the aromatic ring in the form of indole
  • The reaction occurs by a condensation process formed by an acid splitting of the protein, ρ-Dimethylaminobenzaldehyde combines with indole to form a red colored complex1, 2
  • PGUA Test, positive: bright yellow color formation; negative: no color change
  • Indole Test, positive: red color development; negative: no color change
  • Ready for use and no further preparation necessary
  • Store in its original container at 2° to 8°C (35.6° to 46.4°F) in the dark until used
  • Complete with E. coli screen tubes, and Kovac's indole reagent

Media tubes and Kovacs Indole Reagent.

For in vitro diagnostic use.
