A new strategy using real-time background subtraction data acquisition on a tribrid Quadrupole-IonTrap-Orbitrap HRMS system is developed for in-vitro and in-vivo characterization of drug metabolites. It enables the possibility of collecting comprehensive MS full-scan and MSn scan spectra of the metabolites of interest without prior knowledge and prediction of metabolic pathways. Advanced post-acquisition analysis tools are readily utilized for in-depth data mining and structural elucidation.

About the presenter

Dr. Qian Ruan, DMPK scientist, mass spectrometry specialist

Dr. Qian Ruan is a DMPK scientist and a mass spectrometry specialist with 14-year experience in drug discovery and development.

Dr. Qian Ruan is currently a Senior Research Investigator at the Department of Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics of Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS). Dr. Ruan received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from New York University. After 2-year post-doctoral training in UPenn, he joined the biotransformation group of BMS and has been doing DMPK research for 14 years. His research focuses on metabolite characterization and safety assessment, metabolic enzymology, and drug-drug interactions. He is also a mass spectrometry specialist on metabolite profiling of small molecule and peptide drugs, quantitation of intact proteins, and development of high-throughput analysis. He has co-authored 17 peer reviewed papers and given oral presentations in many international conferences.
