Human adrenocorticotrophin (ACTH) is a 39 amino acid cleavage product from pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) which elicits a classic glucocorticoid response from the adrenal glands in situations of stress. ACTH is produced in the pituitary, and also by lymphocytes and macrophages.
