This antibody is a monoclonal mixture of FITC-conjugated CD8 (clone 17D8, isotype IgG1) and PE-conjugated CD27 (clone DEN-3, isotype IgG1).
CD8 molecule is composed of two chains termed alpha and beta. CD8 is found on a T cell subset of normal cytotoxic / suppressor cells which make up approximately 20 to 35 % of human peripheral blood lymphocytes. The CD8 antigen is also detected on natural killer cells, 80% of thymocytes, on a subpopulation of 30% of peripheral blood null cells and 15 to 30% of bone marrow cells. CD27 (50 kDa) is a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily. CD40 and CD30 are also members of the TNF receptor superfamily. The TNF superfamily members are known for the regulation of cell proliferation and death. In contrast to the expression of other TNFR/TNF family members, expression of CD27 and its ligand CD70 is predominantly confined to lymphocytes. High expression levels of CD27 appear to be dependent on proper ligation of antigen receptors. CD70 expression requires additional co-stimulatory and/or pro-inflammatory signals. CD27 is a membranebound receptor, but a soluble form of CD27 is also produced.
