The antibody reacts reacts with a cell wall component of C. jejuni and C. coli. The Hippurate reaction was considered as a marker for C. jejuni. The antibody does not react with C. fetus or C. laridus.
Campylobacter jejuni is a species of curved, long rod-shaped, Gram-negative microaerophilic, bacteria commonly found in animal feces. It is one of the most common causes of human gastroenteritis in the world. C. jejuni is commonly associated with poultry and naturally colonizes the G1 tract of many bird species.
