Modern cement plants are run with tight process and quality control. The analysis data is used in the manufacturing control, to run plant operations efficiently and profitably whilst meeting emissions targets. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry is a common and very powerful technique for fast quantitative analysis of major, minor and trace components of the raw materials used in the clinker manufacturing process to the finished cement product. Didier Bonvin is a 1984 graduate in Materials Science from the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. He shortly after joined ARL (Applied Research Laboratories) in their headquarters in Ecublens, Switzerland where he started as head of Quality Assurance for XRF. In 1990, he was named XRF Product Manager responsible for XRF instruments at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Ecublens, Switzerland. In 1995, he started managing the Integrated XRF-XRD instruments as well. In 2009, he took on the additional responsibility of the Energy Dispersive XRF. Since 2022, he is Product Application Manager for the XRF portfolio of spectrometers.
