It is used in blackboard chalk, printing and writing paper, paints, plastics, PVC cables, polypropylene compounds, thermosetting resins, adhesives, sealants, and decorating fillers. It is an abrasive, and an ingredient in many glazes. It is also used in the pharmaceutical industry as an inert filler for tablets and other pharmaceuticals. It is used as a base in many organic reactions.
