What is the osmolality of Leibovitz's L-15 Medium?

We do provide osmolality information on the certificate of analysis. All lots of Leibovitz's L-15 Medium will meet the osmolality specification of 300-340 mOsm/kg.

Does Leibovitz L-15 medium contain sodium bicarbonate?

No, Leibovitz L15 medium (liquid or powder) does not contain sodium bicarbonate (the formulation for each catalog number is published online). Developed for the support of cell growth in non CO2-equilibrated environments, L-15 formulations were developed without a sodium bicarbonate buffer system. L-15 medium is buffered by phosphates and free-base amino acids (L-arginine primarily, but also L-histidine and L-cysteine). Galactose and sodium pyruvate are used to replace glucose in order to reduce the production of acidic metabolites.

How long can I keep my media after supplementing with serum?

Generally speaking, media can be used for up to three weeks after supplementation with serum. There are no formal studies to support this, but it is the rule of thumb used by our scientists.

My medium was shipped at room temperature but it is supposed to be stored refrigerated. Is it okay?

We routinely ship media that require long-term storage in the refrigerator at room temperature. We have done studies on representative media formulations to show that media can be at room temperature for up to a week without a problem.

'A key to understanding the evolution of the nervous system on a large phylogenetic scale is the identification of homologous neuronal types. Here, we focus this search on the sensory and motor neurons of bilaterians, exploiting their well-defined molecular signatures in vertebrates. Sensorimotor circuits in vertebrates are of two types: ... More

Mitochondrial injury initiates proteolytic processing of procaspase-9 into the large and small subunits, leading to apoptotic cell death. Here we show that the free caspase recruitment domain (CARD) released by procaspase-9 processing activates nuclear factor kappaB expression. A procaspase-9 construct with a point mutation that abrogates the release of the ... More
