General Description
Creatine is an amino acid made naturally by the body that can also be acquired through dietary consumption
It is primarily stored in skeletal muscle tissue
Creatine is stored in a phosphate form, and upon depletion of ATP deposits, phosphocreatine is able to donate phosphate groups to rapidly replenish ATP
Creatine supplementation may be beneficial as a disease treatment, particularly in diseases of muscle wasting including cancer and chronic disease
Applications
Creatine may be used in the laboratory to study its potential for use as a treatment for metabolic and muscle wasting diseases
Creatine has been found to have antitumor, antiviral, and antidiabetic effects
