General description

  • 4-Epianhydrotetracycline hydrochloride is a secondary degradation product formed by epimerization of tetracycline and dehydration at the C6 position to aromatize the B ring
  • It has 250-fold higher toxicity than either tetracycline or doxycycline depending on the system under study

Applications

  • 4-Epianhydrotetracycline hydrochloride is less toxic to E. coli, and thus suitable for use with vectors or systems designed upon elements of the (Tn10) tet operon of E. coli
  • This compound is also used in veterinary medicine research and as a secondary standard for application in quality control in pharmaceutical laboratories
