Potassium hexafluorophosphate is used to prepare 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexaflurorphospahte and other organic hexafluorophospahte compounds such as alkylaryliodonium hexafluorophopahtes and triarylsulfonium hexafluorophosphates. It is also used in the cationic polymerization reactions as photo initiators. It involves in producing catalyst for peptide coupling reactions.
