A popular nuclear and chromosome counterstain, DAPI emits blue fluorescence upon binding to AT regions of DNA. Although the dye is cell impermeant, higher concentrations will enter a live cell.

To make a concentrated stock solution, dissolve in H2O up to 5 mg/mL. Store frozen and protected from light.

Also available as a room-temperature-stable, ready-to-use solution: NucBlue Fixed Cell Ready Probes Reagent.
