Do you have an ELISA kit for the detection of serum amyloid A (SAA) in the rat?
We have been asked on many occasions if our SAA ELISA kit is cross-reactive with rat. Published reports indicate that rat does indeed possess the gene for SAA, but that the gene contains a deletion. This gene appears to be transcribed and interestingly is under the control of a promoter, an inhibitory regulatory element, and a cytokine response element. Truncated mRNA for SAA can be detected, but the mature protein does not appear in serum or plasma samples.
