Campylobacter Selective Medium (leaked horse blood, vancomycin, polymyxin B, trimethoprim, cefaperazone)

Selectively isolate Campylobacter species from fecal specimens with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Campylobacter Selective Medium (leaked horse blood, vancomycin, polymyxin B, trimethoprim, cefaperazone). The medium is a modification of original Skirrow formula with the addition of 50 mg/l of cefoperazone. Cefoperazon is a cephalosporin antibiotic with enhanced activity against pseudomonas and members of the Enterobacteriaceae.

Campylobacter jejuni is a major cause of acute diarrheal diseae in humans¹. It has worldwide distribution, and is ubiquitous in domestic pets and food animals.

Campylobacter Selective Agar is supplemented with a range of antimicrobials to inhibit background flora (including vancomycin, polymyxin B, trimethoprim, cefaperazone).

• Laked horse blood supplies X factor (hemin) and other necessary growth factors
• Vancomycin inhibits Gram-positive bacteria, polymyxin B inhibits most Gram negative bacilli, and trimethoprim inhibits Proteus
• Cefoperazone enhances suppression of Pseudomonas, thereby improving recovery of Campylobacter spp. from fecal specimens
• Ready-to-use convenience of prepared media.
