Selectively isolate and presumptively identify Candida species with this selectve ready prepared medium.
Selectively isolate and presumptively identify Candida species with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Candida BCG Agar. Candida species ferment the dextrose in the medium causing a reduction in pH in the agar. Bromocresol green indicator changes from green to yellow when dextrose in fermented causing Candida species to form yellow to yellow-green colonies with a yellow zone.
The Candida BCG Agar is recommended in the Laboratory Methods in Medical Mycology for the isolation and presumptive identification of Candida spp on the basis of colony morphology1.
Serious infections due to Candida species are becoming increasingly prevalent. This poses particular problems because of the increasing incidence of non-albicans spp. and the emergence of non-albicans isolates resistant to both amphotericin B and the newer azoles.2
Use Candida BCG Agar for selective isolation and presumptive identification of Candida species.
