Diamond’s Medium Modified

Facilitates the isolation of Trichomonas vaginalis from clinical specimens using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Diamond's Medium Modified. Diamond's medium was developed by Diamond in 1957 for clinical diagnostic use¹. In 1980, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention modified the original Diamond's Medium by replacing sheep serum with horse serum, increasing the concentration of maltose, cysteine, and ascorbic acid, eliminating agar, and adding antibiotics to suppress the growth of bacteria and fungi².

• Ready to Use: Convenience of prepared media.
• Less Sample Required: T. vaginalis can be recovered from an inoculum containing as few as a single organism.
• Selective: Penicillin, streptomycin and amphotericin B collectively supress the growth of a wide range of urogenital flora without inhibiting the growth of T. vaginalis.

This medium is recommended for use in qualitative procedures. This medium contains caesin peptones, cystein, and yeast extract that provide amino acid, nitrogen, sulfur, carbon and vitamins to support the growth of T. vaginalis. Maltose is an energy source and horse serum provides essential growth factors.
