Isolate and cultivate pathogenic yeast and molds from clinical specimens with Remel™ Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, Emmons with Chloramphenicol and Cycloheximide. Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, Emmons is a medium with an increased pH of 7.0 and reduced concentration of dextrose from 40 to 20 g/l2, compared to the original composition described in 1892 by Sabouraud1-2.

Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, Emmons with Chloramphenicol and Cycloheximide is a solid media recommended for use in qualitative procedures for primary isolation and cultivation of pathogenic yeast and molds from clinical specimens.

  • Selective:
    • Cycloheximide inhibits rapidly growing saprophytic fungi.
    • Chloramphenicol and gentamicin inhibit a range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial growth.
    • Penicillin prevents gram-negative bacterial growth.
    • Streptomycin inhibits gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial growth.
  • Ready-to-use: the convenience of prepared media.

Casein and meat peptones supply nitrogenous compounds and amino acids necessary for the growth of fungi. Dextrose provides an energy source for fungal growth. Yeast can be added to the medium as a growth supplement to promote the growth of fastidious fungi. Pathogenic fungi are isolated while bacterial growth is inhibited using antibiotics (chloramphenicol, cycloheximide, gentamicin, penicillin and/or streptomycin).
