Isolate and cultivate Mycobacterium species with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Middlebrook 7H11 Agar. Middlebrook 7H11 Agar is a modification of 7H9 and 7H10 media by Middlebrook. Casein hydrolysate was incorporated into this modified medium to stimulate the growth of mycobacteria that would not otherwise grow on this medium. Malachite-green dye is incorporated as a selective agent which inhibits bacteria other than mycobacteria.

Mycobacteria are immobile, slow-growing, rod-shaped, gram-positive bacteria with high genomic content. The genus includes pathogens known to cause serious diseases in mammals, including tuberculosis and leprosy.

Use Middlebrook 7H11 Agar for the isolation and cultivation of Mycobacterium species.

  • Selective: Malachite-green dye is incorporated in the medium acts as a selective agent which inhibits bacteria other than mycobacteria.
  • Ready-to-use: convenience of prepared media.

Middlebrook 7H11 Agar contains inorganic salts which are essential for the growth of mycobacteria. Casein hydrolysate serves as a growth stimulant for drug-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Glycerol is a source of carbon and energy. Sodium citrate is converted to citric acid, which holds inorganic cations in solution.
