Detect coliform organisms in water, wastewater and foods with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Lauryl Tryptose Broth (Dehydrated). Mallman and Darby1-2 evaluated a variety of wetting agents and determined sodium lauryl sulfate added as a selective agent produced the best results for the detection of coliform group. It comes with an inverted Durhams tube which traps the gas which in turn serves as a presumptive test for the presence of coliforms. This medium is recommended by the American Public Health Association, AOAC International (AOAC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration3-6.

Detect coliform organisms in water, wastewater and foods with Lauryl Tryptose Broth. A positive fermentation reaction is indicated by turbidity in the broth and gas bubbles in the inverted Durhams tube.
This medium is used for qualitative procedures. This medium contains casein peptones that provides nitrogen, carbon and sulfur essential for bacterial growth. Lactose is the carbohydrate source fermented by coliforms. Sodium lauryl sulfate is a selective agent that inhibits many organisms other than coliforms.
