Orbitrap Exploris™ 480 eLearning courses provide you with foundational knowledge and basic skills that you need to use and benefit from your instrument. You will find a series of eLearning courses which can cover different topics such as foundational theory and/or basic operations principle and/or user maintenance and troubleshooting.

The Orbitrap Exploris™ 480 Foundational Theory eLearning course is on the basics of the Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Exploris™ 480 mass spectrometer. This self-paced eLearning program is intended for learners who are new to mass spectrometry or the Orbitrap Exploris™480 mass spectrometer.

Included in the program are the following self-paced eLearning modules:

  • Introduction to Mass Spectrometry and Fundamental Components
  • Atmospheric Pressure Ionization (API)
  • Impact of LC Solvents and Modifiers on MS Analysis
  • Ion Transfer in the Orbitrap Exploris™480 Mass Spectrometer
  • Ion Routing Multipole
  • Ion Detection in the Orbitrap Exploris™ 480 Mass Spectrometer
  • Accessory Equipment

This Foundational Theory eLearning course is similar to the Orbitrap Exploris™ 120 and the Orbitrap Exploris™ 240.

The Orbitrap Exploris™ 480 Xcalibur™ Basic Operations with Xcalibur™ eLearning course provides a novice user with a detailed overview of the Tune program for the Orbitrap Exploris™ 480 mass spectrometers. This course provides the user of an Orbitrap Exploris™ Mass Spectrometer with guidelines on identifying and resolving FlexMix quality issues. Basic instruction on how to perform a system calibration on a Thermo Scientific™ Orbitrap Exploris™ mass spectrometer is also provided. This course provides basic routine maintenance instruction and basic instruction on how to perform a sample injection using a standard configuration of a Thermo Scientific™ Vanquish™ Flex UHPLC system in connection with an Orbitrap Exploris™ Mass Spectrometer. This course is designed for new users who want to learn how to use/run basic experiments on the instrument. Some topics include:

  • Tune overview: access & layout, instrument control ribbon, plot areas, left-side, and right-side panes
  • Control instrument power and acquire data within Tune
  • How the FlexMix spectrum should look before executing a calibration
  • Positive and Negative Mode Calibrations
  • Pre-checks / system status verification, including parameters to review prior to performing a maintenance task
  • Creating methods and sequences

This Basic Operations eLearning course is similar to the Orbitrap Exploris™ 120 and the Orbitrap Exploris™ 240.

The Orbitrap Exploris™ 480 user maintenance and troubleshooting with Xcalibur™ eLearning course provides basic instructions on how to perform troubleshooting diagnostics on an Orbitrap Exploris™ mass spectrometer. How to investigate loss of signal, role of the vacuum system and the importance of temperature management for good performance. Some of the included in the course is:

  • Installing ESI probe and housing
  • Manipulating ESI source conditions
  • TNG Tune diagnostics.
  • Initial setup conditions and performance verification
  • Evaluating system parameters & conditions including spray stability, syringe pump flow rate, fluidics, gas settings, vacuum pressures, etc
  • Which vacuum components require routine maintenance and their recommended schedule
  • Important safety guidelines and maintenance procedures that included supporting pictures and videos.
  • Operational importance of temperature management, gases, and covers as well as the related components and peripherals.

This basic maintenance and troubleshooting course is similar to the user maintenance and troubleshooting courses for the Orbitrap Exploris™ 120 and Orbitrap Exploris™ 240.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

How do I change to whom an eLearning course for analytical instruments and lab equipment is assigned?

Access Credit Manager to manage the eLearning course assignment. Select the eLearning course order and click on the Assign credits button to remove the existing user assignment.
Note: You can only change the assigned user if they have not yet accessed the eLearning course.

Can I assign an eLearning course for analytical instruments and lab equipment to more than one person?

You can assign an eLearning course for analytical instruments and lab equipment to more than one person only if you purchased multiple quantities. The number of quantities purchased equals the number of users that can be assigned to the course.

How long do I have to assign a purchased eLearning course for analytical instruments and lab equipment to a user?

You have one year from the date of purchase to assign an eLearning course for analytical instruments and lab equipment to a user.

What if the user I am delegating an eLearning course for analytical instruments and lab equipment to does not receive the email on how to manage eLearnings?

Please verify the email address used for delegating. If you are unable to locate the email, you can access Credit Manager directly.

What if the user I am delegating an eLearning course for analytical instruments and lab equipment to does not have a thermofisher.com account?

If the user you have assigned administrative rights to does not have a thermofisher.com account, they will have to register for an account on thermofisher.com to assign the eLearning course. This account does not need to be a verified account and can be created by entering the following information:

- First Name
- Last Name
- Email address
- Password

The email address used to create the account will need to be the same email used to delegate the administration of the eLearning course.
