Germanium (Ge)

Germanium ([Ar]3d¹⁰4s²4p²) (CAS 7440-56-4) is a grayish-white, lustrous, brittle metalloid. Although this element is a poor conductor of electricity, it is often doped with other elements and is used as a transistor element in thousands of electronic applications. Germanium is most important as a semiconductor material and it is in this area that the majority of germanium is used.
