Proteins are sequentially extracted using differential detergents. CEB = cytoplasmic extraction buffer; MEB = membrane extraction buffer; NEB = nuclear extraction buffer; NEB + MNase = nuclear extraction buffer plus micrococcal nuclease (chromatin-bound fraction); PEB = pellet extraction buffer.
