AACC 2020

Visit us at AACC

The American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC)  2020 Annual Meeting connects global leaders in laboratory medicine and opens the door to discover cutting edge technology and vital research in the field. This year, AACC is hosting a virtual education and networking experience, and we are proud to continue our sponsorship.

We invite you to join us virtually as we showcase workshops and lectures covering innovations for SARS-CoV-2, oncology therapeutic development, Alpha-gal allergy diagnostics and explore our Thermo Scientific Cascadion™ solution for LC/MS clinical diagnostic testing.

During the show, you will also have opportunities to engage with our people and our latest product solutions. Also, don’t miss our virtual experience designed specifically for AACC 2020. Be sure to register for  AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo.

Workshops

As SARS-CoV-2 continues to spread around the globe, COVID-19 testing remains a cornerstone for helping to control the spread of this novel coronavirus. In this workshop, ARUP Laboratories will share their experience using the Emergency Use Authorized TaqPath COVID-19 Combo Kit. They will share clinical performance and comparison data with two other SARS-CoV-2 real-time-PCR based tests, including performance data with regards to the “two of three” infected patient gold standard. Additionally, Thermo Fisher Scientific will discuss our rapidly expanding COVID-19 testing portfolio which aims to assist with the growing testing demands of the medical community.

Speakers:

• Ninad Mehta, PhD, Pathology Fellow, ARUP Laboratories
• Manoj Gandhi, Senior Director, Clinical, Thermo Fisher Scientific

In this workshop, our customer and collaborator, Dr. Dan Liebler, President of Protypia, Inc., will highlight his research on MS proteotyping of human Cancers in oncology therapeutic development using Thermo Scientific™ Orbitrap™ technology.

New therapeutics targeting immune checkpoint proteins have significantly advanced treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but protein level quantitation of drug targets presents a critical problem.

Dr. Liebler focuses on his use of multiplexed, targeted mass spectrometry (MS) to quantify immunotherapy target proteins PD-1, PD-L1, PD-L2, IDO1, LAG3, TIM3, ICOSLG, VISTA, GITR, and CD40 in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) NSCLC specimens. Global proteome analyses identified distinct proteotypes associated with high PD-L1-expressing and high IDO1-expressing NSCLC.

Find out how MS quantification of multiple drug targets and tissue proteotypes can improve clinical evaluation of immunotherapies for NSCLC.

Speaker:

• Daniel C. Liebler, Ph.D., President, Protypia, Inc.

Part 1: The Thermo Scientific Tox Explorer Collection: Robust LC-MS Workstream for Toxicology Analysis

This presentation will demonstrate a targeted screening and quantitation method for a large panel of drugs of abuse. This workstream based approach utilizes the high-resolution, accurate-mass Thermo Scientific™ Q Exactive™ Plus Orbitrap mass spectrometer. Identified drugs are screened against an extensive HRAM MS/MS spectral library and a database containing molecular formula, exact mass, retention times, and fragment ions.

Speakers:

• Deb Bhattacharyya, Ph.D., Sr. Manager, Vertical Marketing, Thermo Fisher Scientific
• Kristine Van Natta, Ph.D., Strategic Marketing Applications Specialist, Thermo Fisher Scientific

Part 2: Thermo Scientific TraceFinder™ Software Overview and Implementation of a Thermo Scientific™ Q Exactive™ Hybrid Quadrupole-Orbitrap™ Mass Spectrometer for the Identification and Quantitation of Synthetic Cannabinoids in Postmortem Forensic Investigations

Synthetic cannabinoids continue to appear in forensic toxicology casework, and they represent a chemically diverse class of substances with particularly difficult behaviors to which high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) can provide great benefit. A quantitative confirmatory test was developed and validated for 5F-MDMB-PICA (the most prevalent synthetic cannabinoid identified in forensic casework) and its metabolites in human blood. A Thermo Scientific™ Q Exactive™ Hybrid Quadrupole-Orbitrap™ Mass Spectrometer was used for analysis. This interactive presentation will provide an overview of TraceFinder software along with a review of the performance characteristics to demonstrate the utility and accuracy of the developed assay.

Speakers:

• Tais R. Fiorentin, Ph.D., Research Scientist II, The Center for Forensic Science Research and Education
• Alex J. Krotulski, Ph.D., Research Scientist III, The Center for Forensic Science Research and Education

Lectures

Alpha-Gal syndrome, also known as delayed red-meat allergy, is a recently discovered condition that’s been making media waves. The syndrome is notoriously difficult to diagnose, but advancements in allergen component diagnostics have made it easier.

Speaker:

• Gary Falcetano, PA-C, Clinical Affairs Manager, Allergy, Thermo Fisher Scientific

In order to reach the COVID-19 testing volumes needed to help reduce the spread of disease and restore economies and communities - clinical laboratories need high-throughput, highly-automated systems that are easy to install and run. The Thermo Fisher Scientific Amplitude Solution is an upcoming, new, highly automated molecular diagnostic testing system that can analyze up to 8,000 COVID-19 specimens in 24 hours. In this webinar, you will learn about the current challenges clinical laboratories are facing when scaling their COVID-19 testing, learn about how this new system can improve laboratory efficiencies with minimal staffing, and how easily a system like this can be implemented into a clinical laboratory.

Speakers:

• Robert Balog, Ph.D., Director of Research and Development, Thermo Fisher Scientific
• Elliot Shelton, Sr. Director, High-Throughput Program Manager, Thermo Fisher Scientific

With the overlap of flu season and the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak, it is vital that clinical and public health laboratories have access to a single test that can detect RNA from multiple respiratory viruses. As a world leader in COVID-19 testing, Thermo Fisher Scientific has worked rapidly to develop a new multiplex real-time PCR diagnostic kit for the simultaneous detection of SARS-CoV-2, influenza A, and influenza B, which all present with similar clinical symptoms. This highly accurate real-time PCR test is Emergency Use Authorized, allowing you to expand your respiratory sample testing menu while maintaining low operational costs. Join this talk to learn more about the TaqPath COVID-19, Flu A, Flu B Combo Kit and see performance data.
