HOW TO ENTER: To enter, submit a completed web form located at thermofisher.com/cellcultureheroes, including your research title, abstract and presentation slides. Your submission must be in a text format, and must be in the English language, and must have been previously published. Submissionsmust relate to cell culture that is for research purposes only and not related to use in any diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications. Do not submit any data relating to patients, clinical studies, or medical treatment, or which contains any personally identifiable information, personal health information, or other sensitive personal data. The submission must be original and created by the entrant. The submission must not contain material that violates or infringes another’s rights, including but not limited to privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or copyright infringement. The submission must not contain third-party brand names or trademarks.
ELIGIBILITY: Participation is open only to PhD students and Post-Doctoral researchers who do cell culture in their research. Participants must be at least 18 years or older in the US (excluding Puerto Rico), Canada (excluding Quebec), Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan who submit a completed web form. There is a maximum of one entry per person. A person can only win once. Participants must warrant that they have obtained any necessary permission to submit an abstract and presentation slides to this Contest and authorization from their employer or responsible supervisor.
Healthcare Professionals located outside of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa may not participate in this promotion. The term Healthcare Professionals outside of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa includes clinical or non-clinical physicians (including MDs and MDs/PhDs), and physician assistants, nurses, technicians, research coordinators, administrators and purchasing personnel and entities (including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing facilities, home health agencies, clinics and group purchasing organizations, managed care organizations, physician group practices, medical directors for health insurance organizations) and their employees and representatives who are involved in the actual provision of health care services.
Healthcare Professionals located in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa may not participate in this promotion. The term Healthcare Professionals in these regions means any individual (with a clinical or non-clinical role; whether a government official, or employee or representative of a government agency or other public or private sector organization; including but not limited to, physicians, nurses, technicians, laboratory scientists, researchers, research coordinators or procurement professionals) that in the course of their professional activities may directly or indirectly purchase, lease, recommend, administer, use, supply, procure or determine the purchase or lease of, or who may prescribe medical technologies or related services. The definition of Healthcare Professionals includes individuals involved in research activity, not just those directly involved in the provision of healthcare services.
Federal or state government employees in the US may not participate in this promotion.
Government Officials located outside of North America may not participate in this promotion. Government Official shall mean: (i) Any officer or employee of a government or any department, agency or instrument of a government; (ii) Any person acting in an official capacity for or on behalf of a government or any department, agency, or instrument of a government; (iii) Any officer or employee of a company or business, university or institution owned or funded in whole or part by a government; (iv) Any officer or employee of a public international organization such as the World Bank or United Nations, the European Union or the World Health Organization; (v) Any officer or employee of a political party or any person acting in an official capacity on behalf of a political party; and/or (vi) Any candidate for political office.
Void where prohibited, licensed, or restricted by federal, state, provincial, or local laws, regulations, or agency/institutional policy. Determination of eligibility is at Sponsor’s sole discretion.
DURATION: The Cell Culture Heroes Contest (the “Contest”) begins April 30, 2018. Submissions must be received by Sponsor no later than December 31, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. US Eastern Time to be included in the Contest.
SELECTION OF CELL CULTURE HEROES: Cell Culture Heroes will be selected by a panel of three qualified judges comprised of the Sponsor’s employees with backgrounds in marketing, product management and research and development. Criteria for judging the winning entries will be based on the following criteria:
40% Research Innovation. We will focus on finding up and coming researchers who are finding new and innovative ways to study cells.
25% Timing. As it is a requirement for the award winner to be a PhD or Post-Doctoral researcher, they must be in the same required range of education level and same research at the time of the webinar presentation as submitted.
20% Social Media Involvement. The applicant should be passionate about science communication, specifically via social media.
15% Cell type. In order to cover a broad range of research in our webinar series, we will lean towards research that have not been as heavily presented on within the program.
PROGRAM DISCLAIMERS: Judges’ decisions are final on all matters and shall not be subject to challenge or appeal. In addition, the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend this Contest should any virus, bug, non-authorized human intervention, fraud or other causes beyond its control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the voting process. The Sponsor, its affiliates, partners and promotion and advertising agencies are not responsible for technical, hardware, software, telephone or other communications malfunctions, errors or failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, the site internet, or ISP availability, unauthorized human intervention, traffic congestion, incomplete or inaccurate project information (regardless of cause) or failed, incomplete, garbled, jumbled or delayed computer transmissions which may limit one’s ability to complete necessary steps to complete submission, including any injury or damage to participants or any other person’s computer or mobile device relating to or resulting from participating in the voting or downloading any materials. The Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, incomplete, invalid, unintelligible, technically corrupted or misdirected submissions, which will be disqualified. The Sponsor shall use commercially reasonable efforts to ensure the security and accuracy of all submissions (provided, however, that you acknowledge and agree that such methodologies are not infallible, and that the Sponsor makes no guarantee as to their effectiveness).
WINNERS: Winners will be selected on a bi-monthly basis from all eligible entries received. Each Winner will be notified by email within approximately 14 days after the selection date. If a Winner is unreachable or does not make direct contact with the Sponsor by the date specified in the notification, or fails to accept the award, the award will be forfeited in its entirety and the submission that garnered the next highest number of votes by the judges will be selected as a Winner. The Winner must execute and return a Permission to Publish, affidavit of eligibility/ liability release/prize acceptance, and Consent and Release, within 14 days of the date of notification. If the Winner fails to do so, the award will be forfeited in its entirety and an alternate Winner will be selected from the remaining eligible entries. The Winner must warrant that she or he is not a Healthcare Professional, a US federal or state employee, and, if located in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa, a Government Official, nor prohibited by employment, contract, applicable industry codes or law from entering the Contest or accepting an award from the Sponsor and, if located in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa, must provide evidence that his/her supervisor has approved the acceptance of the prize by the Winner.
AWARD: Each Winner will present their research to a global audience via webinar platform and will be named a Cell Culture Hero.
By submitting a nomination, each participant unconditionally accepts and agrees to comply with and abide by these rules and the decisions of the Sponsor, which shall be final and binding in all respects.
PUBLICITY: Sponsorwill publish the name and photo of the Winner. The Winner consents to the use by Sponsor of Winner’s name and image in Sponsor’s press releases, announcements, or other marketing literature.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY: Ownership of the pre-existing underlying intellectual property of the participant remains the property of the participant subject to Sponsor’s rights to reprint, display, reproduce, perform, use and exhibit the submission and the Winner’s presentation for the purpose of administering and promoting the Contest and for Sponsor’s marketing and advertising purposes. By participating in the Contest, each participant grants to Sponsor a non-exclusive, worldwide, fully paid, royalty-free, perpetual, transferable license to reprint, display, reproduce, perform, use and exhibit (including the right to make derivative works of) the submission and materials, and information submitted on and in connection with the Contest, as well as materials and information provided by the Sponsor for the purposes of running this Contest. Each participant hereby warrants that any submission and other materials and information provided by participant, and any results, are original with participant and do not violate or infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property, or other rights of any person or entity, and do not violate any rules or regulations. If the submission or information or materials provided by participant, and any results, contain any material or elements that are not owned by participant and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, participant represents that he or she has obtained permission to include them in their submission, prior to submission of their entry to this Contest; and information or materials, and any results, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit use and display of the submission, information and materials, and results by Sponsor in the manner set forth in these Terms and Conditions without additional compensation.
INDEMNITY; DISCLAIMERS: To the full extent allowed by law, participants and each Winner’s release, indemnify and hold harmless the Sponsor and its affiliates, directors, officers and employees from all liability for any damages, injury or losses to any person (including death and bodily injury) or property of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, misuse or use of the award or participation in any promotion-related activity or participation in this promotion. The Sponsor has not made any warranty, representation, or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, with respect to any award, including, without limitation, to such prize’s quality or fitness for a particular purpose. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE SPONSOR BE LIABLE, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT, WARRANTY, OR UNDER ANY STATUTE OR ON ANY OTHER BASIS FOR SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT, PUNITIVE, MULTIPLE OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES SUSTAINED BY ANY WINNER OR ANY OTHER PERSON OR ENTITY ARISING OUT OF THE SPONSOR'S PERFORMANCE OR FAILURE TO PERFORM ITS OBLIGATIONS RELATING TO THE AWARD OF THE PRIZE OR PERFORMANCE OF SERVICES, THE POSSESSION OR USE OF ANY PRODUCT, OR THE PERFORMANCE BY THE SPONSOR OF ANY SERVICES, WHETHER OR NOT FORESEEABLE AND WHETHER OR NOT THE SPONSOR IS ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO LOSS OF USE, LOSS OF DATA, DOWNTIME, OR FOR LOSS OF REVENUE, PROFITS, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OR OTHER FINANCIAL LOSS.
MISCELLANEOUS: The promotion is sponsored by Life Technologies Corporation, an affiliate of Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., 5781 Van Allen Way, Carlsbad, California 92008, USA. To obtain the name of the Winners, send a request with a stamped, self-addressed envelope to Chelsea Jimenez, Thermo Fisher Scientific, 3175 Staley Road, Grand Island, NY 14072, USA. If required pursuant to local law or internal rules, participant also represents and warrants that his/her employer or institution has approved the participation in the Contest. Employees of Sponsor and its affiliates, as well as their immediate family members and household members, are not eligible. All entries and their content become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned. This Contest shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of the State of California without reference to its choice-of-law doctrines.
