Consistent raw material quality is possible
Cement raw materials are crushed and stocked into a special pile for blending to reduce the variability. The material is then transported to the raw mix proportioning area. We offer instruments and software to help ensure an optimal raw material mix. Thermo Scientific Acculink software creates a real time communication channel between lab XRF analyzers and the CB Omni Fusion Online Elemental Analyzer. By comparing the results from both these instruments, the software can monitor whether the online analyzer is performing within acceptable limits of accuracy and apply a correction to the online analyzer if needed, thus keeping the entire system working at the best possible performance levels.
Learn more about the Cement Production Process
Achieve consistent stockpile and raw mix chemistry and improved kiln efficiency. The Thermo Scientific CB Omni Fusion Online Elemental Analyzer continuously analyzes the chemical composition of the entire raw material stream being carried on a conveyor belt using Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) or Pulsed Fast Thermal Neutron Activation (PFTNA).
Analyze major and minor oxides in cement and raw materials such as limestone, sand, bauxite, ceramics, refractories, slags and sinters with the Thermo Scientific ARL OPTIM’X Cement Analyzer. The ARL OPTIM'X Cement Analyzer comes with factory-installed calibration using NIST™ standards for clinker and cement.
Ensure consistent clinker quality with both chemical and phase analysis in one simple operation. The Thermo Scientific ARL 9900 Total Cement Analyzer combines X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) technologies to provide fast process monitoring during the critical phases of cement manufacturing.
Make sure your online analyzer is operating at peak accuracy. The Thermo Scientific AccuLINK Software Package links two leading cement products - the ARL series of XRF laboratory analyzers and the CB Omni family of online PGNAA elemental cement analyzers so you can compare data from both systems to ensure optimal operational efficiency.
Automatically adjust multiple raw material feed rates. Thermo Scientific RAMOS (Raw Mix Optimization Software) works with a cross belt online analyzer to monitor the chemistry of the raw material being carried on a conveyor and automatically issues optimal blend proportions to reduce chemistry variability and meet quality control targets.
Monitor raw material feed to crushers, mills, screens, preparation plants, and coal-fired power plants to help ensure precise feeding of process materials and maintain product quality. Thermo Scientific Ramsey™ conveyor belt scales provide vital information for the effective management and efficient operation of cement raw material handling.
PGNAA and PFTNA improve stockpile and raw mix control
Cement raw materials require careful monitoring and control to ensure process efficiency, optimal kiln operation and clinker quality. Variations in raw material quality, and improperly blended materials, adversely affect the process from pre-heater through the kiln and all the way to grinding.
The more variability in the raw material kiln feed, the more fuel is needed at the kiln to allow appropriate reaction of the raw materials into the correct clinker phases. What is more, the potential to “over react” raw materials and create harder to grind clinker is much higher with the higher fuel burn. If raw material chemistry is unknown or in question both fuel, energy and raw materials can be wasted and quality targets may be missed.
Cross-belt online analyzers that use Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) or Pulsed Fast Thermal Neutron Activation (PFTNA) can be integrated into the conveyor belt line to analyze, in real time, the entire material stream. These technologies are deeply penetrative and measure the entire material volume travelling by conveyor at a high frequency of analysis, making them ideal instruments to help control stockpile chemistry and continuously proportion raw mix to ensure smooth kiln operation.
