Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.
For reconstitution add 50 µL of sterile water.
Specific Species Reactivity: Carica papaya
Cysteine proteases are enzymes that use an active site cysteine to cleave peptide bonds and are widely involved in plant development, protein turnover, and stress responses. They participate in senescence, programmed cell death, seed germination, and remodeling of storage proteins, and they help recycle nutrients during leaf aging and abiotic stress. Many plant cysteine proteases are synthesized as inactive precursors with propeptides that guide folding and inhibit activity until proteolytic removal or pH dependent activation in vacuoles or the apoplast. Their activity is modulated by cystatin inhibitors, redox status, and post translational modifications, enabling precise spatial and temporal control. In immunity, specific cysteine proteases process defense related proteins and can be targeted by pathogen effectors, while in growth they shape cell wall dynamics and organ development. Genetic and biochemical studies link altered cysteine protease activity to changes in yield, stress tolerance, and quality traits such as protein composition in seeds and fruits.
