PA1-4924 detects RecA in E. coli samples.
PA1-4924 has been successfully used in Western blot, ELISA, and immunoprecipitation procedures. By western blot the antibody detects a ~38 kDa protein (RecA) in E. coli samples.
PA1-4924 immunogen corresponds to recombinant RecA protein.
E. coli RecA protein is a very important enzyme for homologous recombination and recombinational repair. Expression is induced by SOS response caused by DNA damage. The RecA protein has multiple functions, such as single stranded DNA dependent ATPase activity, DNA annealing activity, formation of D-loops and Holliday structures during homologous recombination, and co-protease activities that promote self-cleavage of the LexA repressor, lambda phage repressor and UmuD protein. RecA protein binds to single and double stranded DNA for nucleofilament formation. It carries out a central role in homologous recombination. Its is homologous to the eukaryotic Rad51 protein and Dmcl protein.
