Store lyophilized/reconstituted at -20°C; once reconstituted make aliquots to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Please remember to spin the tubes briefly prior to opening them to avoid any losses that might occur from material adhering to the cap or sides of the tube.

Target Information
SAL1, also called FRY1, is a plant enzyme that regulates stress signaling by degrading the metabolite PAP and processing inositol phosphates. By controlling PAP levels, SAL1 influences retrograde communication from chloroplasts and mitochondria to the nucleus, affecting RNA metabolism and gene expression during drought, high light, heat, and salinity. SAL1 is localized in chloroplasts and mitochondria, linking organelle redox and metabolic status to whole plant responses. Loss of SAL1 function leads to PAP accumulation, altered chloroplast development, changes in sulfur and nucleotide metabolism, slower growth, and stronger activation of stress-responsive genes. Because SAL1 activity tunes the balance between growth and stress resilience, variation or engineering of SAL1 offers a strategy to improve abiotic stress tolerance in crops.
