This antibody reacts to human p40 (deltaNp63).
p40, also known as DeltaNp63, is an isoform of the p63 gene, which is a member of the p53 family of transcription factors. p63 plays a crucial role in the development and maintenance of epithelial tissues, and DeltaNp63 specifically acts as a dominant-negative inhibitor of p53 and other p63 isoforms. This inhibition is vital for the regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis in epithelial cells. DeltaNp63 is highly expressed in the basal layers of epithelial tissues, including the skin, where it contributes to the regenerative capacity of these tissues. Abnormal expression of DeltaNp63 has been implicated in various cancers, particularly those originating from epithelial cells, such as squamous cell carcinoma. Understanding the function and regulation of p40/DeltaNp63 is essential for developing targeted therapies for these malignancies.
