Ara h 1 is a major allergen found in peanuts (Arachis hypogaea) and is classified as a seed storage protein. It belongs to the vicilin family of 7S globulins and is known for its strong allergenic potential, contributing significantly to peanut allergy, which is among the most common food allergies. Structurally, Ara h 1 is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 63.5 kDa, consisting of a trimeric formation that enhances its stability and resistance to digestion. This resistance contributes to its allergenicity, as it can persist in the gastrointestinal tract and elicit immune responses. Immunologically, Ara h 1 contains multiple epitopes recognized by IgE antibodies in susceptible individuals, triggering allergic reactions.
