alpha Internexin Antibody (PA1-10009) in ICC/IF

Immunofluorescent analysis of alpha Internexin in a rat cerebellum section. The rat cerebellum section was obtained following transcardial perfusion of the rat with 4% paraformaldehyde, brain was post fixed for 24 hours, and cut to 45µM. Free-floating sections were stained with an alpha internexin polyclonal antibody (Product # PA1-10009) at a dilution of 1:5,000 as seen in red, and costained with an MBP po... Product Specific Information

In Western blot, human proteins run at ~68 kDa, while rat and mouse run lower at ~66 kDa. Minor bands at ~150 kDa are probably covalent dimers, and bands at ~50 kDa represent alpha-internexin breakdown products.

Stable at 4°C for at least one year. Mix 1:1 with 100% glycerol and store at -20°C for longer term storage.

          Target Information

alpha-Internexin is a Class IV intermediate filament subunit expressed very early in neuronal development. It is related to but distinct from the better known neurofilament triplet proteins, NF-L, NF-M and NF-H, having similar protein sequence motifs and a similar intron organization. Many classes of mature neurons contain a-internexin in addition to NF-L, NF-M and NF-H. In some mature neurons a-internexin is the only neurofilament subunit expressed. Antibodies to internexin are therefore unique probes to study and classify neuronal types and follow their processes in sections and in tissue culture. In addition the very early developmental expression of a-internexin means its presence is an early and convenient diagnostic feature of neuronal progenitors cells and other cell committed to the neuronal lineage. The use of antibodies to this protein in the study of brain tumors has not been examined to date, but is likely to be of interest.
