La mezcla isomérica Texas Red-X, éster de succinimidil y sus conjugados reactivos con amina emiten a una longitud de onda más larga que la tetrametilrodamina o la rodamina B de lisamina, y se encuentran entre las «terceras etiquetas» de longitud de onda larga más comúnmente utilizadas en microscopía de fluorescencia y citometría de flujo. Los conjugados de proteínas preparados con el éster de succinimidil Texas Red-X también tienen una mayor producción de fluorescencia que aquellos con la misma proporción de etiquetado preparados con cloruro de sulfonilo Texas Red.
