Product Specific Information
For dilution, use a buffer containing carrier protein, e.g. PBS with 1% BSA or a neutral media containing 10% FCS and freeze in aliquots at -70°C.
Activity: The biological activity of recombinant equine IL-2 was determined by measuring the proliferation of mouse CTLL-2 cells. The ED50 (or 1 unit of activity) for this effect in our laboratories is typically 2 µg/mL. Ref: Kaye, J. and C.A. Janeway. (1984) Lymphokine Res. 3:175.
Mature equine IL-2 was expressed in Pichia pastoris, X-33. GenBank® Accession # P37997, amino acids 21 - 149. For protein verification, the expressed protein was N-terminal sequenced and begins with the following 10 amino acids: APTSSSKRET.
Reconstitute with 0.5 mL of distilled water.
Target Information
Interleukin 2 (IL-2) is an immuno-modulatory cytokine that is important for the proliferation of activated T cells, differentiation of B cells, natural killer cells, monocytes and macrophages. IL-2 signals through the IL-2 receptor (IL-2R), a heterotrimeric protein complex whose gamma chain is also shared by interleukin 4 (IL-4) and interleukin 7 (IL-7). The expression of the IL-2 gene in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, which represents an unusual regulatory mode for controlling the precise expression of a single gene. The targeted disruption of a gene similar to IL-2 in mice leads to an ulcerative colitis-like disease that suggests an essential role of this gene in the immune response to antigenic stimuli.
