Target Information

D14, also called DWARF14, is a plant alpha beta hydrolase that functions as the receptor for the hormone strigolactone, a carotenoid derived signal regulating shoot branching, root architecture, and responses to environmental cues. Upon binding strigolactone, D14 undergoes a conformational change and hydrolyzes the ligand, enabling formation of a signaling complex with the F box protein D3 or MAX2 and repressors such as D53 or SMXLs, which are then targeted for ubiquitin mediated degradation. This triggers transcriptional and developmental programs that suppress axillary bud outgrowth, modulate auxin transport, and adjust resource allocation. D14 activity integrates nutrient status, mycorrhizal interactions, and stress signals, and its mutants show increased tillering or branching and altered root traits. D14 works with biosynthetic genes like D27, CCD7, and CCD8 and with perception components in the nucleus to fine tune growth and adaptation across plant species.
