Respiratory tract infections can lead to a number of diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tracts that are caused by microbes such as viruses, bacteria, and even fungi. Detection of these pathogens can be challenging; immunoassays provide limited answers, and culture based methods are prone to contamination and can miss bacterial and fungal pathogens owing to fastidious growth in culture. Concurrent prevalence of viral and bacterial pathogens is a growing concern and needs effective detection options.
While molecular testing is more sensitive, most commercially available molecular tests are expensive, primarily focus on either viruses or bacteria, and lack the flexibility to include specific targets organisms that are clinically relevant to a patient segment or regional population.
Our real-time PCR solution for respiratory tract microbiota (RTM) is a sensitive, syndromic panel–based, flexible-content solution for the detection of respiratory pathogens. We have verified solutions using both OpenArray and TaqMan Array Card technology, which you can order as off-the-shelf or customizable, depending on your unique needs.
Features of this solution include:
- Extensive coverage—with 42 verified pathogen targets, our solution features the most pathogenic markers of any test on the market
- Customizable—our solution is verified for TaqMan Array Cards and OpenArray plates, along with customized solutions for 96- and 384-well plates, or single tube assays
- Cost-effective—up to three times more cost effective compared to other commercially available panel-based molecular respiratory tests
- Multiple sample input types—including nasopharyngeal swabs, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), and nasal nasopharyngeal aspirate
