Ambion Millennium Markers are designed to provide accurate size determination of single-stranded RNA between 0.5 and 9 kb and can be used in any northern blot protocol. Millennium Markers are a mixture of 10 discrete RNA transcripts with easy-to-remember sizes: 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9 kilobases. The markers may be stained with ethidium bromide either during or after electrophoresis.

Available Ambion Millenium Markers

Because of their quantity and spacing, Millennium Markers are ideal for constructing very accurate standard curves for mRNA size determination. They also provide a reference scale for easy verification and comparison of known bands.

Millennium Markers-Formamide
are the same high-quality RNA markers, supplied in formamide. This marker set shows increased stability and resistance to RNase compared to other large molecular weight RNA markers.

BrightStar Biotinylated Millennium Markers
are a mixture of unlabeled and biotinylated Millennium Markers that can be stained using ethidium bromide and detected nonisotopically using the BrightStar BioDetect Nonisotopic Detection Kit or any biotin detection system.

Figure 1. (Left Panel) Millennium Markers and total RNA samples were electrophoresed on a 1% denaturing agarose gel and stained with ethidium bromide. (Right Panel) Ambion BrightStar Biotinylated Millennium Markers (1 µg) were electrophoresed on a 1% denaturing agarose gel and transferred to Ambion BrightStar-Plus Positively Charged Nylon Membrane using NorthernMax blotting protocols. The 10 marker bands were then visualized using the BrightStar BioDetect Kit.
